Choose a Display Font

These suggestions describe how we would use each face. Every download includes the family's published weights, unmodified TTF files and licence.

  • Arima

Curved strokes with a calligraphic swing, good for event titles, festival banners and shop boards. The variable weight lets one family carry both a bold headline and a light date line.

Natanael Gama, Joana Correia, Rosalie Wagner · 100 to 700 · Unicode Tamil and Latin · OFL 1.1

    Download Arima · Official Specimen

  • Baloo Thambi 2

Rounded ends and thick, even strokes that stay legible from across a hall. Reach for it on school notices, packaging and anything made for children; its weights run from 400 to 800, so the sub-line can come from the same family.

    Ek Type · 400 to 800 · Unicode Tamil and Latin · OFL 1.1

Download Baloo Thambi 2 · Official Specimen

  • Kavivanar

A pen-written look in a single weight. It suits a wedding invitation, a greeting card, a name or a two-line quote. Set it large and keep paragraphs and small print in a plain face.

    Tharique Azeez · 400 · Unicode Tamil and Latin · OFL 1.1

    Download Kavivanar · Official Specimen

  • Coiny

Chunky, rounded letters for a short, loud line: a sale banner, a sticker or a video thumbnail. Three or four words is its limit before it starts to feel crowded.

    Marcelo Magalhães · 400 · Unicode Tamil and Latin · OFL 1.1

    Download Coiny · Official Specimen

  • Oi

The heaviest face here, with very little white space inside the letters. Use it for a single title word at 64 px or more, with generous space around it.

    Kostas Bartsokas · 400 · Unicode Tamil and Latin · OFL 1.1

    Download Oi · Official Specimen

Pair Tamil and Latin Fonts

Let one face carry the personality. Pair a large Kavivanar heading with a quiet Latin sans such as Hanken Grotesk, and use Anek Tamil for small Tamil details. For Baloo Thambi 2, try its own Latin letters first so curves and weight belong together. Keep Coiny and Oi for short words with generous space.

Match perceived size rather than point size: a Tamil heading and an English subtitle can look unbalanced at identical settings. Compare a real name, date and venue line. Use two families at most in a small poster, and keep contact details in a plain face.

Use the Fonts in Your Design App

Download a ZIP, extract it, and keep the OFL notice. Install its TTF files before opening Photoshop. Paste Unicode Tamil, select the text and choose the family. Do not convert the words to Bamini just to change their style. Adobe documents Tamil support through its World-Ready text engine.

If letters break apart, follow Tamil Fonts in Photoshop for rendering settings.

In Canva, custom font upload depends on your plan and permissions. Use Canva’s official guide below to check eligibility. Canva does not support variable fonts. Arima and Baloo Thambi 2 in these archives are variable, so choose the static Kavivanar, Coiny or Oi files for Canva, or obtain an officially supplied static version. A font installed on your computer does not automatically appear in Canva.

For PixelLab, use the font importer provided by your installed version. We have not verified a single menu path across versions. Check the actual output before sharing: try கி கு கொ கோ கௌ, export a draft image and inspect it at full size. If it fails, use a tool with Tamil shaping support.

Keep Text Editable Until the Final Export

Save the editable design with the font name noted. Export an image when the recipient only needs the final artwork. Share the licensed TTF and OFL file when a collaborator needs to edit with the same family. For long reading or smaller captions, compare the body faces on our Tamil fonts download page, which previews all fifteen families side by side.

Questions People Ask

Which Tamil font looks handwritten?

Try Kavivanar first in the poster preview, then compare Arima if you want a more calligraphic title. These are design suggestions, so judge them using your actual names or greeting. Keep longer addresses and instructions in a plainer face, and check the wording before sending an invitation to print.

Are these stylish Tamil fonts free for commercial use?

Yes, these downloads carry the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits commercial artwork. You can use them for a poster or invitation without buying a separate font licence. Keep the included licence when passing the font files to someone else, and read its conditions before modifying or redistributing a family.

Can I use the fonts in Canva?

Yes, if your Canva plan and role allow custom font uploads. Download the selected family, extract the ZIP and follow the current Canva upload instructions in Sources. The font licence and the app feature are separate: an openly licensed font does not make uploads available to every Canva account.

Does changing the font translate English into Tamil?

No, choosing a font only changes the appearance of the characters you entered. Prepare Unicode Tamil in the typing editor, then paste it into this preview or your design app. If you cannot read Tamil, have the wording checked before printing, especially names, dates and greetings.

Does Download ZIP save my poster as a picture?

No, Download ZIP saves the selected font family, not a picture of your preview. The page lets you compare your wording and download font files for use in a design app. Keep a separate copy of your text, then build and export the finished poster in your chosen app.

Can I preview my family names before downloading a font?

Yes, replace the text in the poster field with your own Unicode Tamil names. Choose a family and compare the available preview sizes before downloading it. Check long names and both lines of an invitation, because a short sample may hide spacing problems that appear in your actual design.

Which font should I try for a large Tamil banner?

Try Baloo Thambi 2, Coiny or Oi and compare them at the largest preview size. These are editorial starting points, not guaranteed print settings. Keep the title short enough to read at a distance, and ask the printer for a proof using your final dimensions before approving a large banner.

Should I use a decorative Tamil font for the whole invitation?

Use a decorative face mainly for the title or names, then compare a plainer font for details. This is a readability suggestion rather than a rule. Try reading the venue, time and contact number at the final size; if those lines feel crowded, simplify them before changing the headline.

Why does my stylish Tamil font show broken signs in Photoshop?

The text engine and font both need to handle Tamil correctly; changing the decorative family alone may not resolve broken signs. Compare the same text in a plain Unicode Tamil font, then follow the Photoshop Tamil guide. Keep the wording editable until the characters render correctly in the destination app.

Can I send the font ZIP to my printer?

Yes, you can redistribute these OFL font files with their copyright and licence notices. Send the included licence along with the family, and identify the font and weight used in your design. Ask the printer to check a proof rather than assuming their installed version matches your preview exactly.
